(G)I-dle recently wore Red Cross-branded lifeguard outfits during their appearance at Music Bank.
These outfits have caused a big controversy in Korea.
The members donned skimpy attire, featuring cropped tops and hot pants. The tops were predominantly white, emblazoned with the words “Red Cross” and “Lifeguard” across the chest. The hot pants also showcased a Red Cross motif.
The Korean Red Cross announced that “(G)I-DLE did not seek approval for the usage of the Red Cross emblem.” The Humanitarian Law Institute, responsible for overseeing the emblem’s use, intends to address this matter with the band’s management and develop a plan to avoid future incidents. Nonetheless, they concluded there was no deliberate wrongdoing, so no fines or penalties will be enforced.
The Geneva Convention and national laws strictly limit the use of the “Red Cross” symbol. According to the Osaka Red Cross Hospital’s official website, “The red cross on a white background is exclusively allowed for activities connected to the Red Cross, the world’s largest humanitarian NGO.” It further explains, “This is rigorously controlled by the Geneva Convention and domestic laws,” and notes that “Displaying this emblem on medicine boxes, hospital or clinic signs, or rescue team uniforms outside the Red Cross context is a violation of the Geneva Convention.”

Knetizens’ Comments:
1. Things like that could get them sued, so the agency should have stopped it. Did they not know?
2. The thing that makes me sick the most is the sexualization of certain professions
3. The clothes are provocative. Using them is prohibited, but if they have that mark and wear such clothes, it’s worth protesting
4. Please avoid wearing clothing that sexually objectifies specific professions
5. The outfit this time is really short… And the outfit itself isn’t pretty ㅜ Please wear pretty clothes to go with your pretty face
6. They came out wearing pants that I doubt are really pants, and it’s already unpleasant to look at, but with the Red Cross mark on it…
7. Seriously, clothes like that are now even old-fashioned… They look outdated
8. When I first saw the outfit, I wondered if it was okay to wear it like that, and it seems there really are some issues with it
9. If you want to wear sexy clothes with that kind of concept, why not do something like a rescue team like Baywatch? I think you shouldn’t touch the Red Cross at all
10. I can’t believe they are sexualizing the Red Cross
